The process

From location to tree matches in three quick steps

01
๐Ÿ“

Your location

Enter a UK postcode, OS grid reference, or click the map. We identify the soil, climate, and exposure conditions at your site.

02
๐ŸŒฑ

Your land

Enter your planting area in acres. All yield, dumpy bag, and energy figures are scaled to your exact plot size.

03
๐ŸŒณ

Your system

Fast coppice, traditional coppice, or long-term forestry - choose the tree management system that fits your timeframe.

04
๐Ÿ”ฅ

Your results

Top species ranked by energy yield. Harvest timeline. Dumpy bag estimates. Heating equivalent. Planting plan.

Why trust this

Estimates grounded in real site conditions

Every recommendation is based on the growing conditions at your specific location - not generic averages. We assess the site factors below and combine them with species-specific suitability assumptions to estimate likely performance. These are planning estimates to help you decide what to look into further - always check on the ground before planting.

๐Ÿ’ง

Soil moisture & drainage

How wet or free-draining your ground is across the year - a key driver of which species will thrive.

๐ŸŒฑ

Soil nutrients

The fertility of your site, which shapes growth rates and the species likely to do well.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Temperature & season

Accumulated warmth and growing-season length, estimated from national climate records.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

Exposure & wind

Wind exposure at your location, which limits establishment and yield for less hardy species.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Rainfall & moisture deficit

Available water through the growing season, balancing rainfall against drying demand.

๐ŸŒณ

Species suitability

Published forestry assumptions for each species, matched against your site to estimate likely fit.

Based on UK Forest Research ecological data

The Ecological Site Classification (ESC) model was developed by Forest Research, the research agency of the Forestry Commission. It combines soil surveys, climate records, and topographic data to describe the growing conditions across the UK.

We use this national dataset to understand the soil, climate, and exposure conditions at your location. Those conditions are then processed through growth curves and yield modelling to estimate how different tree species will grow and produce firewood on your land - the kind of assessment that would normally require specialist forestry tools or professional advice.

The result is a practical estimate of your land's firewood potential, based on conservative assumptions and published forestry research.
